Richmond Va.— The University of Richmond football team has jumped spots in both major polls, improving from 25 to 21 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll and from 21 to 19 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll.

Richmond makes the improvements after upsetting #16/17 Villanova, 20-10, at Robins Stadium Saturday.

The Spiders continue to lead the nation in completion percentage with 0.762 (186-244) and the fewest penalties per game at 3.17, while quarterback Reece Udinski (North Wales, Pa.) leads the country in completion percentage and is second in completions per game with 30.50.

Richmond is tied for sixth in the nation in defensive touchdowns with two, while Aaron Banks (Stephen’s City, Va.) ranks 11th in interceptions per game (2) and fifth in fumble recoveries (2). Richmond’s scoring defense ranks 13th in the country, allowing 18.0 points per game. The Spiders are also tied for sixth (first in the CAA) in turnover margin at 1.17.

Richmond has also been elite in punt coverage, allowing -0.67 yards per game on returns— a number that ranks third in the country.

The Spiders have moved the ball well through the air in six games, with the 17th-best passing offense in the nation at 273.8. Jasiah Williams (Petersburg, Va.) is ranked first NCAA FCS and leads the Colonial Athletic Association with 8.0 receptions per game and the Spiders have converted on 45-of-94 third downs for a CAA-leading .479 percent (14th overall).

Richmond faces off with in-state foe Hampton Saturday at 2:00.
