CINCINNATI — The No. 31 Cincinnati men’s golf team will conclude its highly-decorated fall season this weekend at the two-day Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla., starting Sunday.
The action will take place at the par-72, 7,350-yard Quail Valley Golf Club, and was originally Saturday-Sunday. Three of the Bearcats’ four tournaments thus far have been two-day affairs.
This is also the team’s first trip to this course since the Fall 2017 finale, predating anyone on the current roster.
Cincinnati, which won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate earlier this week for its second fall victory, will send out its same starting five in Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich, William McDonald, Wyatt Plattner and Rylan Wotherspoon.
Jean, ranked 39th by Golfstat, has three top-10 finishes out of four tournaments, including the Bearcat Invitational title and the only outlier being 12th at the Old Town Collegiate. His 68.91 stroke average is somehow still second on the team, behind Ty Gingerich’s high-end performance (69.18). The duo each have seven sub-70 rounds out of 11 on the season, with Gingerich also collecting three top-10 finishes and ranking 59th in Golfstat.
Wyatt Plattner’s elite play in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate championship run saw him achieve his lowest score (7-under 209) and top finish (seventh). He has improved his score and standing in each of his three full events, with the exception being the rain-shortened Badger Invitational. Wotherspoon has also shot 3-over par combined over the last two tournaments, including a strong 74-72-70 in Tennessee to finish strong at even.
The participating teams, including five in the top-50, are Indiana, Liberty, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Missouri, North Florida, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers, South Florida, Toledo and Wisconsin.
