The Lindenwood men’s ice hockey team (0-2-0) travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend for a two-game series with No. 7 University of Michigan Wolverines (0-0-0, 0-0-0 B10) Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. CT on both Friday and Saturday.
Last weekend, the Lions played their first games as a NCAA Division I program, dropping both contests to No. 2 Minnesota by scores of 4-0 and 6-4, respectively. In the second game, eight different Lindenwood players recorded points, led by Kyle Jeffers (1 G, 1 A) and Caleb Price (2 A), who compiled two points apiece.
Multiple transfers made an impact against the Gophers, as Hunter Johannes and Adam Conquest each registered their first points as a Lion. Johannes, a transfer from AIC scored a highlight reel goal in the second period, tying the game 2-2. Conquest, who did not dress in the series opener, netted his first tally of the season in game two.
In the two-game series, Lindenwood blocked 64 Minnesota shots, led by freshman defenseman Jack Anderson who had nine, Seven players blocked at least five attempts, putting their body on the line as a defensive unit. Trent Burnham and Matt Ladd each made a start between the pipes for Lindenwood, with both recording 30 or more saves in both contests
Michigan opens the season ranked No. 6 in the country after compiling a 31-10-1 record last season, which included a Frozen Four appearance. The Wolverines were picked to finish third in the Big Ten Preseason Poll and had three players selected to the Preseason First Team, including Luke Hughes, Mackie Samoskevich and Erik Portillo.
This is the second ranked team Lindenwood will face this season, with matchups against No. 3 North Dakota and defending national champion and top-ranked Denver scheduled for later in the year.
