The Maria Carrillo girls tennis team clinched the North Bay League title on Thursday with a 7-0 sweep of Healdsburg on senior day.

The Pumas, who are now 17-0 overall with one match remaining, got 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 courtesy of Kayla Nguyen, Colleen Morris and Riya Ramakrishnan. No. 3 Shruti Pillai won her match 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, No. 1 Kailyn Shin and Carly Deng won 6-0, 6-0, No. 2 Annie Lee and Caroline Graham won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 3 Paloma Benedetti and Sebin Park completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win.

The Pumas will look to cap off their undefeated regular season next Tuesday at Windsor in the final tuneup before the NBL singles tournament, which runs Oct. 27-28. The NBL doubles tournament is set for the week after, Nov. 2-3.


Windsor made history on Thursday night with a win in its regular-season finale.

The Jaguars, who clinched the NBL-Oak title outright on Tuesday, swept Cardinal Newman 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 to complete their first-ever undefeated league season.

Windsor ends the year at 10-0 in the NBL-Oak and 21-11 overall heading into the North Coast Section playoffs next week.

Leading the way Thursday were Emma Smith (14 assists, nine digs), Taylor Boyce (16 kills, 11 digs), Madison Shaw (five kills), Haven Trechter (seven kills) and Brielle Galli (10 assists).

The Cardinals finish the regular season 18-12 overall and 7-3 in league, tied for second with Maria Carrillo (23-7, 7-3).

The Pumas wrapped their league slate with a three-set win over Santa Rosa, 25-17, 25-23, 25-15.

Girls golf

The NBL team and individual entries for the North Coast Section championships are officially set.

Cardinal Newman, the league champion of the NBL-Oak, will be competing as a team in the NCS Division 2 championship on Monday, Oct. 24 at Rooster Run Golf Course, while Analy, the NBL-Redwood champion, will be competing at the NCS Division 1 championship Oct. 31 at Foxtail-South.

The NCS individual qualifier will also be held at Rooster Run this upcoming Monday. The top 18 finishers from that event will advance to the NCS Division 1 championship.

Rancho Cotate’s Carlie Higgins and Kaitlyn Antonetti, as well as Windsor’s McKenna Murphy, are the individual qualifiers from the Oak. From the Redwood, Healdsburg’s Teyha Mitchell will be joined by Lexi Urbina, Ruby Mortier and Alex Castagne from Ukiah.

There are also two local individual qualifiers from the Vine Valley Athletic League. They are Casa Grande’s Cara Broadhead and Petaluma’s Emily Poehlmann.
