Week 9 didn’t provide any instant classics, but overall, it was a great weekend in college football that saw most top contenders notch another victory.

Of all of the clashes involving a contender on Saturday, the best was Ohio State surviving on the road against Penn State. The Nittany Lions looked bound for an upset but the Buckeyes were able to keep their undefeated record intact. Meanwhile, their arch-rival Michigan faced Michigan State in a game that was close early, lopsided eventually and all-around ugly by the night’s end due to a postgame altercation. Tennessee continued to roll by thumping Kentucky while Georiga downed Florida– but not without a scare.

In the southwest, Oklahoma State was savaged by the Wildcats of Kansas State while TCU kept up its winning ways. Further west, Oregon rolled through Cal’ while USC engaged in a war through the air with the Arizona Wildcats.
