LOUISVILLE, KY – The Longwood Lancers fell to the Bellarmine Knights in the team’s third MAC contest this season by a score of 2-1. Floor Schouten provided the lone goal for the Lancers, while another from Madison Wiley was wiped away by video review in the third quarter.

Today’s MACtion began with a closely contested first quarter. Both the Lancers (2-8) and Knights (2-8) made several great plays defensively and posted similar marks on the offensive side, with Longwood’s three shots besting Bellarmine’s two in the first frame.

The defensive prowess continued for both teams in the 2nd quarter. The first shot of the frame wouldn’t come until under two minutes when Kate Frey’s attempt was blocked, which led to a Longwood penalty corner. Nothing would result, and the score was locked 0-0 headed into halftime.

Longwood thought they had a goal early in the third from Madison Wileybut after an official review the call on the field was overturned, and the score would remain 0-0. Shortly after, the Knights broke the tie on an Amber Hofenkjerembo tally to give Bellarmine the lead. However, Floor Schouten made sure the Knights weren’t in the lead for long, notching her first goal of the season on a deflection from Kolbey Donahue to tie the match at one apiece.

Bellarmine quickly responded to start the final quarter, when Hofenkjerembo converted on a breakaway chance to put the Knights up 2-1. Longwood’s offense started to generate chances late in the fourth, including three shots and a penalty corner in the final five minutes. The late offensive push was unable to generate a score, and Bellarmine walked away with the conference victory.


Today’s match marks the 4th time that Longwood has faced Bellarmine, with the series leaning in favor of the Lancers 3-1.

Longwood out-shot Bellarmine 13 to 10, with the Knights leading the shots on goal department six to four.

Lara Van Nunen recorded four saves, putting her season total at 44.

Maroussia Walckiers led the Lancers with five shots, sending one of which on goal.

For Floor Schoutenher third quarter score was her first of the season.

Kolbey Donahue’s assist on Floor Schouten’s goal was the only assist of the match.

Longwood’s seven corners bested Bellarmine’s four in the match.


The Lancers welcome the Redhawks of Miami (OH) to Farmville on Friday, October 7th. First touch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
